Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). The permanent 0.6 FTE position will be primarily located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals within the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.

 

The successful applicant will be required to provide clinical services for the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, including inpatient and outpatient care, bronchoscopy (including advanced bronchoscopic skills), pleural procedures, lung function reporting. The applicant will be expected to participate in the Quality assurance aspects of the department, participate in administrative duties and have oversight of discharge summaries, DRG coding.

 

Bronchoscopy at Blacktown Hospital will be performed in the Endoscopy Centre at Blacktown Hospital, which commenced operations in early 2024. The LGA has a high prevalence of lung cancer, and the position will be an essential part of the expanding local Lung Cancer service. The primary focus of this position will be to coordinate the Bronchoscopy Service, whilst performing more complex interventions. This will include organising and participating in lists, developing the Bronchoscopy service, engaging in quality assurance practices for the endoscopy unit, and facilitating research projects focused on the Bronchoscopy Service. The applicant must be able to perform basic bronchoscopy independently and should ideally possess more advanced interventional skills as well, such as endobronchial ultrasound, rigid bronchoscopy or pleuroscopy.

 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1.  Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)

2.  Sound clinical knowledge in Respiratory Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position Department of Respiratory Medicine, BMDH

 

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

 

Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:

 

1.   Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997.

2.  Possess procedural skills to independently perform bronchoscopy, as well as perform other speciality procedures including either endobronchial ultrasound and/or pleuroscopy and/or rigid bronchoscopy.

3.   Sound clinical knowledge in Respiratory Medicine, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

4.    Substantial experience managing patients with Lung Cancer and Pleural pathology.

5.    Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

·      High level interpersonal and communication skills.

·      Experience in working with and leading a multidisciplinary team.

·      Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

·     Significant experience in clinical research and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
