Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Staff Specialist position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be situated in the WSLHD – Quality and Safety Portfolio.
Successful applicants will have breadth of knowledge and skill in quality and safety initiatives. This will include engaging clinical staff, participation in and provide medical advice on Death Reviews and Serious Adverse Event Reviews. Successful applicants will also support the Executive Director Quality & Safety in strategic matters relating to patient safety risk, patient experience, reduction in unwarranted clinical variation, accreditation initiatives and evidence based practice in the review and implementation of Quality and Safety matters or initiatives.
The individual needs to be a skilled communicator, capable of synthesizing data from multiple data sources and able to engage clinical staff at all levels and across all disciplines. A track record of creativity, innovation and delivery is required.
The Western Sydney Local Health District Quality and Safety Portfolio includes the Research and Education Network, Clinical Governance Unit and Health Literacy Hub. The portfolio supports the District in the implementation of the WSLHD Clinical Governance Framework, Research Support and Education initiatives.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Selection Criteria
2. Sound knowledge in all aspects of clinical quality, safety and improvement demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
· Highly developed communication, coaching, facilitation and interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive issues. This includes the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders throughout all organisational levels.
· Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
· Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
4. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support applied or clinical research within the Department.
5. Highly developed skills and experience in the review of Serious and Adverse Events, Death Reviews and Clinical Incidents using relevant review methods and the development of sound recommendations.
6. Highly developed skills and experience in the design and development of education initiatives relevant to quality and safety
7. Highly developed skills and experience in the use of information systems to enable informed decision making, identification of system improvement and patient experience.
8. Demonstrated experience in the identification and use of evidence-based & best practice quality and safety implementation in quality improvement.
