What you'll be doing  

The Department of Medical Physics at Westmead Hospital is the largest Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics Department in NSW. You will be part of a collaborative team with access to a wide range of physics resources and imaging modalities. The primary purpose of this position is to provide radiology medical physics services to various departments within the four hospitals that make up WSLHD (with an additional new hospital about to be built), and to external contracted organisations that use ionising and non-ionising radiation. This position will also include some travel to regional and metropolitan sites.

Applicants who expect to become certified or registered by the ACPSEM in radiology medical physics within 6 months may also be considered. 

This unique role supports radiology physics services and radiation safety across WSLHD and external partners, ensuring safe radiation use through expert support and training.

As the Medical Physics Specialist your role will see you :

  • Assisting Senior Medical Physics Specialist in radiology services.
  • Supporting Radiation Safety Officer with safety compliance.
  • Ensuring safe use of ionising/non-ionising radiation.
  • Delivering radiation safety training to health staff.
  • Promoting patient and staff safety across all services.

Essential Criteria: 

 

  • Hold an appropriate NSW EPA Radiation User licence or obtain such licence within 3 months of employment.
  • Undergraduate degree in science with a major in Physics and full EPA CRE accreditation obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • ACPSEM Registration or Certification in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (Radiology).

  

 

Selection Criteria: 

 

  1. Undergraduate degree in science with a major in Physics (Postgraduate degree in physics/medical physics is desirable).
  2. Demonstrated experience in all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology Physics including equipment testing, radiology radiation dosimetry, radiation shielding and radiation safety.
  3. Good working knowledge of computing environments and software.
  4. Demonstrated ability to produce work to a high professional standard within defined timelines.
  5. Highly developed verbal, written and electronic communication skills, including experience teaching to a range of professions.
  6. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, working both independently and as part of a team.
  7. Be willing to work irregular hours (early or late) at times and possess or obtain within 6 months an unrestricted drivers licence valid in NSW.
  8. Demonstrated ability to show initiative, have a flexible approach to service delivery, and prioritise amongst competing service requirements.
