Where you'll be working

This role is based at Bathurst Health Service, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District.  The facility is a Level 4, 120 bed acute hospital that services a rapidly growing catchment population and is about to undergo a $200M redevelopment to bring new and expanded services into the region.

Bathurst Hospital staff, clinicians and the Western NSW Local Health District have provided valuable input to the project team which has helped inform the planning and design and will continue to provide input as the facility is built and refurbished.  This is a great opportunity to be involved at the ground level in the redevelopment and service design of this project.

Bathurst provides allied health, ambulatory care, coronary care, emergency medicine (26,000 presentations a year), intensive care, general medicine, mental health drug & alcohol, obstetrics & gynaecology, oncology, paediatrics, pathology, radiology, rehabilitation and surgery services.  The service also has active hospital in the home and primary community health services to the surrounding townships.

Bathurst Health Service has a strong partnership with the University of Western Sydney and Charles Sturt University, conducting research and providing training opportunities for medical students. The facility has a strong partnerships with several Universities, providing student clinical placements, education and patient referral opportunities.

A comfortable and scenic 2.5 hour drive from Sydney, Bathurst is Australia’s oldest inland colonial settlement and is close enough to feel accessible to the big city, but far enough away to feel relaxed & spacious. With a population of around 45, 000 people, this vibrant city has everything you need if you are looking for a place to call home.

Facilities in Bathurst include a very busy entertainment centre, regional art gallery, conservatorium, 3 museums, a cinema and a multitude of sporting facilities.  A large shopping precinct, strong café scene and great local pubs and restaurants are only part of the great community infrastructure that supports the Bathurst community.

Bathurst is home to a range of public and private schools, TAFE and Charles Sturt University – Australia’s largest region university.  Bathurst is also multicultural centre with communities from all over the world and an active Neighbourhood Centre that brings these communities together.

There is no shortage of things to see and do, you can explore Bathurst and surrounding villages, participate in one of the many events in the Bathurst Event Calendar, or check out the community directory for special interest clubs, sporting clubs and service organisations.

Please consider practising where your services are truly needed, in Bathurst. In many cases, underserved patients in smaller communities must drive hundreds of kilometres for care. People living in rural areas are deeply affected by the medical professional shortage.  Practising in rural locations amplifies the number of people you can impact and make difference to their lives. Working in rural settings becomes an immersive experience.  Specialist doctors are especially well-regarded. Community and togetherness helps establish strong continuity of care.
