About the opportunity

As a Registered Midwife on casual pool you will be organised to provide medium and short term leave relief within the Maternity Unit at Bathurst Health Service. 


Midwifes that hold dual Registered Nurse/Midwife registration will have the opportunity to provide similar support in the Medical, Surgical or Rehab wards.

Bathurst Health Service is located 3 hours west of Sydney over the Blue Mountains. It is a University City, has good transport services throughout the city, buses, trains and airplanes with regular connections to Sydney then interstate. Large sporting complexes, great restaurants, recreational activities and facilities.

Maternity is a level 4 5 bed unit with the capacity to surge to 9 beds with a Level 3 Special Care nursery. In Maternity we have multiple models of care available including Midwifery Group Practice. 

The hospital has an ED, 15 bed Surgical Ward, Level 4 ICU, Level 4 Maternity Services, Paediatrics services, Medical Unit with telemetry and palliative care beds, Rehabilitation unit onsite, and TACP beds, large inpatient and outpatient Allied Health support and expanding Ambulatory Care and HITH services. Educational support is available to staff, enthusiastic and supportive team on the ward, looking for interested and keen staff member to join our team.

To apply for this position, please address the following Selection Criteria

  1. Current Authority to Practise as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with the Registered Midwife National Competency Standards, Code of Ethics for Midwives, and Code of Professional Conduct for Midwives (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia).
  2. Recent midwifery experience including, antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care and lactation support.
  3. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written and verbal means; and sound interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
  4. An understanding of woman centred care and demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, delegate, and negotiate with others to deliver quality midwifery care.
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise and organise workload and deliver care with integrity and accountability.
