About the opportunity

The Psycho-Oncology Counselling position, funded by the Cancer Institute NSW, is responsible for developing and delivering patient-centred, quality psycho-oncology services to improve the experience and quality of life of people living with cancer. This is a temporary fulltime position up until 30 June 2020 with a posibility of extension to 30 June 2024.

 

Working within the Alan Coates Cancer Centre (soon to be Western Cancer Centre Dubbo) this role works as a part of the Cancer team  to provide services to the people that attend this unit but also to the local Government areas of Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Cobar, Coonamble, Dubbo Regional, Gilgandra, Mid-Western Regional, Narromine, Walgett, Warren and Warrumbungle.

Where you'll be working

Planning is underway for the $35 million Western Cancer Centre Dubbo, which will provide 16 chemotherapy chairs, a bunker for radiation treatment and a PET CT Scanner for cancer diagnostics. The NSW Government has provided $10 million for the project in addition to the Federal Government's $25 million commitment.

To apply for this position, please address the following Selection Criteria

  1. A bachelor degree in Social Work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. Knowledge, skills and experience to meet the requirements of the NSW Health Professionals Award Level 2.
  2. Demonstrated highly proficient written, verbal, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  3. Extensive specialist or broad generalist knowledge, clinical proficiency and ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, taking leadership in clinical decision making.
  4. Ability to effectively prioritise and organise own work/ caseload.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice
  6. Demonstrated experience in leading ongoing quality improvement activities and a knowledge of the research process
  7. Demonstrated high level problem solving and project management skills.
  8. Current licence to drive in NSW with the ability and willingness to drive for work purposes.
