About the opportunity

As a generalist Health Promotion Officer you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of evidence-based health promotion programs that address the prevention of chronic disease, with a focus on tobacco control, physical activity and healthy eating in Western New South Wales (WNSWLHD) & Far West Local Health Districts (FWLHD).


The WNSWLHD Health Promotion Team has the responsibility of delivering mandated state-wide and locally grown programs under healthy eating and active living (HEAL) & tobacco control across WNSWLHD & FWLHD. This role will report to the Health Promotion Coordinator, Adult programs.

This position sits within the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Directorate, location is Negotiable between Orange and Dubbo, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District. For more information on living and working in our beautiful region, visit our website Western NSW Health Careers.


WNSWLHD is one of the largest Local Health Districts (LHD) in NSW encompassing an area of 246,676 square kilometres. The population is approximately 276,000 people with approx. 11% identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.


Orange and Dubbo are both large NSW regional cities. 


Orange is located on 254 km west of Sydney. With a population over 37,000.


Dubbo is located on 400km north-west of Sydney with a population over 38,000.


11% of WNSWLHD population identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.


Health Promotion provides health promotion services to FWLHD which is the second largest LHD in NSW with a population of approximately 30,000 people.

To apply for this position, please address the following Selection Criteria

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in a relevant health or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the principles underpinning health promotion practice.
  3. Demonstrated ability in project planning, implementation and evaluation of programs including innovative approaches.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of, commitment to, and ability to use the principles of evidence informed practice.
  5. Demonstrated organisational, consultation, interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated ability to competently use information and communication technology (ICT) software for a range of purposes, including word processing, emails, document preparation, internet searches, data entry.
  8. Current licence to drive in NSW with the ability to drive for work purposes.
