To apply for this position, please address the following Selection Criteria

  1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (NB applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW).
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of current health issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities outlined by Western NSW Local Health District Health Strategic Plan and Western NSW Local Health District Health Improving Aboriginal Health Strategic Plan.
  4. Willingness and commitment to work effectively as art of a multidisciplinary team and deliver services to the whole of the community.
  5. Commitment to work as an Aboriginal Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol Trainee (under supervision) with all consumers who have mental health drug and alcohol issues.
  6. Written and oral communication skills to a standard to undertake a university degree course.
  7. Willingness and commitment to undertake tertiary study towards the Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health), attend residential teaching blocks, complete clinical competency assessments, assignments, essays, examinations, worksheets and clinical and health promotion practicum placements under supervision which will require the ability to organise and prioritise work and study activities.
  8. Current licence to drive in NSW with the willingness and ability to drive long distances for work purposes, including overnight stays.
