About the Opportunity

Liverpool Hospital, in partnership with the University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Pharmacy Professional Practitioner to assist pharmacy students in developing on the ground experience in a hospital setting. You will teach and supervise pharmacy students during their clinical placement. Your duties may include clinical teaching and assessment with a focus on coaching and developing students in providing best-practice patient care within a clinical setting.

The role is based at Liverpool Hospital and may be required to travel to the Camperdown Campus occasionally for teaching-related activities. Please note this is a full time opportunity, with 0.6 FTE employed by the University of Sydney and the remaining 0.4 FTE employed by Liverpool Hospital.

What You'll be Doing

The provision of specialist clinical Pharmacy services to the nominated clinical specialty area. Dispensary duties as required. Promotion of both safety and quality as key aspects of drug therapy. Participation in quality improvement and professional development, as well as contribution to education and supervision of other staff and students.


Where You'll Be Working 

  • Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
  • The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
  • Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
  • Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
  • Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Full Pharmacist registration with AHPRA with no restrictions to the scope of practice.
    A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a registered pharmacist working in hospital pharmacy AND EITHER:A minimum of 12 months experience working as a clinical pharmacist in in the nominated specialty area (or a similar specialty area) OR Relevant postgraduate qualifications and a minimum of 6 months experience in the nominated specialty area (or a similar specialty area).
  2. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of hospital staff, and patients and careers
  3. Demonstrated ability to display judgement and independence in problem solving
  4. Demonstrated competence in clinical drug knowledge and experience in applying that knowledge appropriately to clinical settings including participation in the development or review of medication policies and guidelines
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within multidisciplinary teams including a record of participation in clinical meetings and medical rounds
  6. Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and to supervise the activities of pharmacy staff and provide guidance in the specialty field for other staff
  7. Proven organisational and time management skills and the ability to priorities according to organisational needs
  8. Demonstrated contribution to quality assurance activities
  9. Demonstrated record of participation in teaching programs with other pharmacists, nursing staff or other health care providers
