About the Opportunity
Join our dedicated team as a Melanoma Specialist Nurse and make an impact on patients cancer care.
The Melanoma Specialist Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist (Grade 2) will provide safe, compassionate, quality, person centered specialist care and work in collaboration with patients/families/carers and a multidisciplinary team to achieve identified goals and outcomes.

- Responsible for the provision of high level person centred, evidence-based clinical nursing care and is expected to embrace and lead a practice development philosophy in the delivery of that care. This outcome will be achieved through undertaking comprehensive nursing assessments, referral, providing care coordination and educational support to staff, patients and family in the cancer setting.
- Responsible for evaluation and supervision in the provision of complex nursing care in the oncology area of practice.
- Undertake comprehensive assessment and management of cancer patients within Melanoma tumour, to support and manage these groups of patients.
- Provide a Care coordination service in consultation and collaboration, and ensure safe management of relevant patient which includes consideration of care requirements for these patients.
- Demonstrate the ability to act as a professional role model, delivering a high level capacity for client advocacy and cost benefit practice while demonstrating the ability to act as a change agent, provide effective clinical leadership and the ability to practice as an autonomous professional with the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Assist in the provision of supervision and support for less experienced clinicians and will maintain their professional accountability and development in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia's Standards of Practice.
- Delivers expert nursing care, clinical advice and support to inpatients/outpatients, nurses, and other health care professionals with regards to high risk and advanced melanoma.
- The Specialist Melanoma Nurse is an advanced practice nursing role that incorporates high level care coordination and leadership, provides education to optimise patient outcomes.
- Expected to work predominantly within the treatment settings for advanced and high-risk melanoma.
- Work closely with the Medical and Surgical Oncologists as a key part of the treatment team.
- Specialist Melanoma Nurses will sub-specialise within the areas of surgical and medical oncology nursing.

- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and 3 years relevant Full Time equivalent post registration experience and approved post graduate nursing/midwifery qualifications in a field relevant to the specialty field, or such other qualification, or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in providing complex care in the relevant field and providing complex care requirements of cancer care patients.
- Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
- Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise.
- Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care and leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice and service delivery.
- Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality.
