What You'll Be Doing?
The Child and Family Health Clinical Nurse Educator for the Aboriginal Child and Family Service works in consultation with Managers, Child and Family Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and Allied Health staff to support the delivery of clinical best practice, culturally responsive patient service and enhanced patient outcomes through orientation, mentoring of new and existing staff, provision of education and undertaking of competency assessments.
All staff are expected to act as an appropriate and effective role model, promoting a culture that supports practices that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients, clients and employees.

SWSLHD Primary & Community Health provides a comprehensive range of community-based services designed to improve and maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across South Western Sydney.
These services include prevention, early intervention, assessment, acute and post-acute treatment, health maintenance, and continuing care. The team supports diverse populations, offering specialised programs for children, young people, older adults, and at-risk communities.
With over 800 dedicated staff, including Aboriginal Health Workers, nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, the service ensures high-quality care close to where people live.

How to Apply

- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), as well as a post graduate qualification in Child and Family Health Nursing. Successfully completed or working towards a tertiary qualification with units indicating a focus on the provision of education and/or clinical training or a current technical qualification in workplace training and assessment.
- Demonstrated understanding of competency-based assessment with experience in education / clinical teaching and developing clinical programs based on adult learning principles
- Experience working with Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander people and an understanding of the various issues that impact individuals and communities and how they relate to the ongoing impacts of colonisation.
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Health Service models and the roles of the multidisciplinary teams have to effectively deliver these as best practice services, as well as Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based multidisciplinary care for Aboriginal communities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a culturally competent, safe and compassionate quality care within an Aboriginal cultural context.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with Aboriginal people and other stakeholders including patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary district wide health care team inclusive of Aboriginal Health Workers and Allied Health staff.
- Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
- Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
