Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated doctor to join the Department of Sexual Health Medicine

  

What you will be doing:

This position is open to medical graduates who will have at least 5 years full-time equivalent post-graduate clinical experience, with at least 3 years full-time equivalent experience in sexual health medicine. You will play an integral role in the multi-disciplinary team providing specialist sexual health services (including HIV management) to the residents of Sydney Local Health District. You will support the staff specialists to provide clinical care including the supervision and mentoring of registrars and trainees and play a role in supporting clinical education and research.

  

The Department of Sexual Health Medicine

The department provides clinical services at RPA Sexual Health and has a strong research and education focus. The primary focus of the service is the prevention, treatment and care of HIV and other sexually transmissible infections among gay and bisexual men, other individuals living with HIV, Indigenous individuals, sex workers and people who inject drugs. The department also provides a fertility regulation service and medical follow-up for recent victims of sexual assault.

The successful applicant will participate in outpatient clinics and assist with quality assurance, research and educational activities related to this service. The successful applicant will need to be able to work efficiently and independently and will be required to support less experienced clinicians when required within the multidisciplinary team and communicate well with other professionals within SLHD and the community.

  

Where you will be working:

The principle clinical site of the Department is RPA Sexual Health located on the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) campus in Camperdown. RPAH is a principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and offers a variety of other speciality services from its main campus. The Department of Sexual Health Medicine is located within Community Health Services which provides a range of other community-based services to residents of the inner west of Sydney.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently in Sexual Health Medicine at a senior level, and the ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice. Demonstrated at least five years full-time equivalent postgraduate clinical experience, and at least 3 years full-time equivalent experience in sexual health medicine. Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine and/or other relevant specialist recognition or enrolment in such a training program would be viewed favourably but is not essential.
  3. Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal), clinical skills, judgement and expertise, teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in a clinical setting.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to supervision and training of junior medical staff, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  5. Evidence of the following attributes: ability to work under pressure; ability to work effectively as part of a team; ability to be flexible, organized and autonomous.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development.
  7. Current NSW Driver's Licence (P1 and P2 Licence acceptable) or overseas equivalent eligible for a Driver's Licence in Australia.
  8. Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of the Sydney Local Health District, including the provision of services to local community, effective use of resources, preparedness to participate in provision of health services at District level, if credentialed.
