About the Role
Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.
The Department of Anaesthetics Laboratory supports clinicians and academics within the department to undertake scientific activities and conduct research projects. The purpose of the Laboratory Hospital Scientist role is to oversee and manage The Department of Anaesthetics Laboratory, conduct laboratory-based research work and assist in research duties as an associate investigator. The Department of Anaesthetic Research Unit undertakes its own local research, acts as a project centre for multi-site studies and is involved in many multi-centre national and international trials. The Laboratory Hospital Scientist will work with the research nurses and Principal/Associate Investigators to facilitate the conduct of high-level research and increase research activities. The Laboratory Hospital Scientist will undertake daily research activities which involve biospecimen processing, labelling and storage, technical research procedures and data collection, entry and analysis. The Laboratory Hospital Scientist will also act as a key support in the management and maintenance of the department laboratory.

Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor's degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution and demonstrated experience in scientific/medical research (or demonstrated understanding of process).
- Demonstrated proactive engagement, critical thinking, and analytical skills, demonstrating the capacity to apply established methodologies in a laboratory setting while addressing and resolving both routine and complex issues within that environment.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures.
