About the Role 

The Director, Finance and Performance is a newly created role for the Mental Health Service.

The Director will lead the finance and performance functions to ensure best value, efficiency and accountability in the way Mental Health Services are provided in close partnership with executive and service leaders.   
  
The Director, Finance and Performance is responsible for senior leadership across the finance function, including financial resource management; budget lifecycle management, improving financial stewardship, and financial performance monitoring and corrective actions, as well as the performance function, including delivery of activity based management and performance under the activity based funding model, to ensure effective and efficient resource allocation to meet targets and obligations under the Service Agreement between Sydney Local Health District and NSW Ministry of Health.
  
The Mental Health Service is heading into a period of transformation and reform. The Director, Finance and Performance has a significant role in the development of financial and activity models for Mental Health Services strategic, service, business, and facility plans, and will lead organisational change in the finance and performance functions to deliver high performing and contemporary finance and performance functions in a complex health service. 

The Director, Finance and Performance reports to the General Manager for Mental Health Services and forms part of the Senior Leadership Team. The Director will work closely with executive, clinical leaders and cost centre managers to ensure prudent finance and performance stewardship.

 

About the Mental Health Service

The Mental Health Service in Sydney Local Health District is a district wide service with an annual operating budget of over $170M and employs over 1,000 full time equivalent staff across three large inpatient facilities (Concord Centre for Mental Health, Professor Marie Bashir Centre, Thomas Walker Hospital) and five community health centres.

The Mental Health Service also hosts several statewide services, including eating disorders; perinatal infant mental health and intellectual disability and has established partnerships and agreements with government and non-government organisations.

    

Ideal Candidate

  • An established leader with tertiary qualifications in finance or activity based funding/management, and/or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a passion for improving care and wellbeing of the community.
  • Proven experience in senior leadership and financial management in a large and complex organisation
  • Proven experience implementing systems to drive and improve performance in a large and complex organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to craft strategic pieces to lead change and transformation to improve business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a team focussed on excellence and improvement
