The Role

The Research Fellow, based in the Centre for Research in Nursing and Health (CRNH) St George Hospital, will work with research teams in the hospital and Research Institutes to undertake research which is in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Directorate Research Strategy. The Research Fellow’s role is to work with the A/Professor of Nursing, primarily, to develop, engage in and lead high quality research projects that are aligned with the CRNH’s research focus areas and which will have a significant impact in nursing. The Research Fellow is also expected to achieve success in attracting research funding and to produce high quality outputs. The Research Fellow will have an important research leadership role in translating evidence into practice, and in sharing their research expertise among clinicians at St George Hospital.  The Research Fellow will be required to develop high-quality, productivity-driven research networks across St George Hospital and with local, national and global, internal and external partners.  The position may undertake limited teaching duties. Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 means:a RN appointed as such to a position approved by the Health Service, who has at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field. Additionally the RN must have approved post graduate nursing qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed to or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the Health Service. An employer may also require a higher qualification in the specialist nursing field where such qualification is considered essential for the performance of the individual position.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Masters degree or a PhD in a health related field or nearing completion of higher degree Research qualifications.
  3. Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in a clinical speciality or in a research position.
  4. Demonstrated ability to conduct high quality research in Nursing including proficiency and accuracy in qualitative and/or quantitative analysis (or working towards proficiency)
  5. Evidence of research publications at national and international level.
  6. Demonstrated proficiency in computer literacy including Word, Excel, powerpoint, Endnote and research software programs (e.g. SPSS, R, NVivo)
  7. Proven ability to implement changes in clinical practice through the utilisation of evidence based research.
  8. Participation in successful collaborative research projects and the ability to deliver against targets, timelines and budget restraints, preferably within an interdisciplinary environment.
