What you'll be doing
The RHW Postnatal Services include the areas of Postnatal inpatient services, Midwifery Support Program and Lactation Services. The Midwifery Unit Manager 1 (MUM) is a clinical MUM co-ordinator role and provides clinical leadership and day to day coordination of the Postnatal Services at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) in collaboration with the MUM 3 who has overall management responsibility for Postnatal Services.
The MUM 1 is responsible for the daily clinical co-ordination and, the allocation of women admitted to the Postnatal Unit. The MUM 1 assists the MUM 3 to lead, plan and evaluate the service. The MUM 1 will work collaboratively with the MUM 3 to effectively manage resources and ensure optimal outcomes for women and babies by promoting best practice through support, allocation and supervision of staff on a day to day basis.
The MUM 1, in partnership with the MUM 3 participates in the recruitment and performance development of staff and functions within the policies and procedures of the NSW Ministry of Health, SESLHD, RHW and the Maternity Division.
The purpose of the MUM 1 for Postnatal Services is to direct, allocate and co-ordinate care of women and babies and, ensure the practice of midwifery care is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

- Current registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
- Relevant management experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
- A demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the management and delivery of health care services
- Proven ability in innovative clinical service delivery, harm minimisation and practice development
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage, enable and manage teams
- Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for midwifery services.
- Recent clinical experience in Maternity Services
