The Royal Hospital for Women is a multi-faceted tertiary referral and teaching hospital offering women a wide range of comprehensive women's health services. It is one of the world's leading hospitals for mothers and babies and for women with benign gynaecological and gynae-oncology conditions. The Royal Hospital for Women is the only stand-alone Women's Hospital in New South Wales providing unique opportunities for innovative clinical practice initiatives. It is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and is co-located with other hospitals on the Randwick Hospitals Campus. The Campus offers one of the State's most comprehensive ranges of facilities and expertise in health care.

The Royal Hospital for Women is close to some of Sydney's best beaches, restaurants and sporting facilities and only fifteen (15) minutes from the Sydney Central Business District and harbour, adding a quality lifestyle to the satisfaction that comes from working within a committed and decided team. The Royal Hospital for Women is situated between the University of New South Wales and Coogee Beach.   

The Newborn Care Centre is a forty-five (45) bed, Level 6 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit specializing in all neonatal patients from pre-term to term, including neonates requiring surgery and/or complex multidisciplinary management. Nursing Staff care for over 1,000 babies each year. Introduction to Neonatal Nursing is a structured 12 month supported program for Registered Nurses wishing to pursue a Nursing career in neonatal care. The program includes supernumerary orientation and hands-on skill development in the Special Care Nursery, followed by an introduction to NICU at the end of the program. Dedicated study days will be provided throughout to build your foundational knowledge in neonatal nursing. Staff within the Newborn Care Centre work a rotating roster with a twelve (12) hour shift pattern.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  3. Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  5. Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
  6. Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse/Midwife in applying these principles.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to the NSW Health Breastfeeding Policy and the BFHI Principles’.
  8. Demonstrated interest in Neonatal nursing, supported by a minimum of one year of recent hospital-based experience.
