The Role
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. Also to provide high level Hand Therapy services within the role and function of Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital.
Hand Therapists in the Hand Unit at Sydney Hospital work as designated Hand Therapists, using a case management model of practice. That is during a patients journey in the service they will ideally have one Hand Therapist to provide and coordinate their rehabilitation. The Hand Therapists working in Hand Therapy at Sydney Hospital have a caseload that is comprised of approximately 90% traumatic hand injuries.
Where you'll be working
The Hand Therapy Unit works as part of the Hand Unit at Sydney Hospital. The Hand Therapy Unit is staffed by Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. The Hand Therapists provide specialised Hand Therapy assessment and treatment to inpatients at Sydney Hospital, the outpatient Hand Clinics at Sydney Hospital and Hand Therapy outpatient appointments.
Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital is steeped in history, with a legacy of nursing and medical firsts to its credit and has paved the way in many clinical areas - both nationally and internationally.
Sydney Hospital is Australia's first hospital and dates from the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.
Today, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospitals’ state of the art facilities and professional staff provide a unique blend of general and specialist medical services for the public and community, including a 24 hour emergency services, general medicine including close observation unit, perioperative services, specialist hand and eye surgery.
The Hospital is in the heart of the Central Business District in Sydney. :

Selection Criteria:
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Demonstrated strong interest in treating hand injuries, including post-graduate experience in casting or splintage
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise a range of written and verbal communication skills and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
- Demonstrated experience in clinical improvement activities with a willingness and commitment to participate in improvement activities.
- Meets relevant tertiary qualifications standard i.e. Current registration within AHPRA : For Physiotherapists: current registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia For Occupational Therapists: current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
