This is a role suited to YOU if you have are fluent in Arabic, have an interest in mental health and are seeking to improve services for the Arabic speaking community in the St George area.

This role will comprise of culturally sensitive comprehensive strengths based and recovery focused assessments with consumers and the formulation of treatment and service provision recommendations, assessment of specific cultural issues relating to the mental health treatment plan, consultation to other NSW Health service providers and support to external partners upon referral and discharge. They will provide high quality evidence based culturally sensitive clinical services including assessment, care coordination, intervention, liaison and review as part of a multidisciplinary team for adults referred to the service with a mental illness or disorder. 

These interventions will be based on an appropriate model of practice as specified by the individual's professional background, skills, and experience and will be informed by evidence based treatment guidelines.

St George Community Mental Health is a vibrant Community Mental Health Service, situated in the heart of Kogarah, near St George Hospital. There will be an opportunity to consult with other mental health professionals and work with consumers at Sutherland Mental Health service.

Selection Criteria:


To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Social Worker or Occupational Therapist qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, current full registration with AHPRA and/or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Psychologist with a four year degree in psychology and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA).
  2. High level verbal and written communication skills with fluency in designated community language (Arabic) in addition to English.
  3. Demonstrated culturally sensitive experience in the mental health assessment, treatment and management of persons with a mental illness using a consumer focussed recovery-oriented approach and consumer collaboration in care planning.
  4. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated skills in time management and prioritisation of work.
  6. Computer literacy skills.
  7. Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
