What you'll be doing
This role provides a comprehensive social work service to families of children and individuals with deafness or hearing impairment and is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team for working with families considering cochlear implantation. The social worker is concerned with the emotional and social wellbeing of children and families, which aims to minimise the impact that a diagnosis and treatment has on children and families, promote health outcomes, encourage early intervention, co-ordinate information and links with appropriate support services in the community.
The social worker also provides a psychosocial assessment, case management, education where required and individual and family counselling, including pre and post-implant surgery support. The social worker liaises with all members of the team working with a client and families including external stakeholders to ensure the journey and ongoing management is streamlined.
This role will work across several NSW NextSense sites to provide face-to-face as well as telepractice and home visits service to clients and families.
- Formal Social Work qualifications and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working with families with complex needs
- Experience working with families experiencing new diagnoses and the associated counselling elements
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work as an active part of multidisciplinary team and ability to apply professional knowledge and judgement when performing novel, complex or critical tasks
- Practice consistent with client/family advocacy and Family-Centred Care
- Demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities for improvement in clinical practice, develop and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
- Interest or experience working in early intervention with families and/or within cochlear implant or paediatric hearing sector
