The Adolescent Medicine Department at The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network are seeking a temporary 0.4FTE (16 hours per week ) Staff Specialist to join their team until January 2026. The role will be based predominantly at the Children’s Hospital Westmead working with the Trans and Gender Diverse team.


The staff specialist role is responsible for the assessment and management of children and adolescents presenting to the clinical services within the Department of Adolescent Medicine, SCHN. The role involves assessment and management of adolescents with a diverse range of presentations within a multidisciplinary model of care.  

The Staff Specialist for the Gender Service provides Paediatric and Adolescent assessment, medical management, clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team, inpatient and outpatient consultations, on call for Adolescent services, supervision of junior medical staff and education within the Department of Adolescent Medicine. The Staff Specialist will abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

  1. Eligible for Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Fellowship of the RACP or other specialist college in Paediatric subspecialty relevant to working within Paediatric Gender Services.
  3. Demonstrated clinical experience in adolescents and young adults medicine, including interest in vulnerable and diverse populations.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to advancing Adolescent Medicine's clinical, research and training agendas, including commitment to clinical practice improvement.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide clinical leadership.
  6. Demonstrated effective clinical communication written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  7. Available to participate in the Adolescent Medicine On Call Roster.
