We are offering an exciting, full time, Permanent Level 3 position for an experienced Child Life Therapist as the Educator within our ChildLife and Music Therapy Department at The Children's Hospital, Westmead. With specialist knowledge and experience this combined clinical and educational role will contribute to the department's growth and development by leading staff and student clinical education.

Please note an Eligibility List is likely to be created from this recruitment for potential future vacancies in Child Life Therapy CHW for equal or lesser FTE and Level positions.
What you'll be doingThe Child Life Therapist will utilise specialist knowledge to plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate therapeutic and medical play, procedural education & support, to reduce anxiety through teaching coping strategies and distraction, and to maintain and extend developmental milestones where possible.
The Level 3 Child Life Therapy will use their advanced professional knowledge and experience to support staff and to share in the growth and development of the department by:
- Planning, development and evaluation of child life therapy services.
- Development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and practice guidelines for patient care.
Please note that throughout the recruitment process you will be assessed with the following:
- A bachelor of Education / Teaching (or a degree with a minimum of 2 years proven studies in Child Development plus education content)
- Postgraduate experience, skills and knowledge in Child Life Therapy provision, leadership and service development
- Experience working with children 0-18yrs – especially 0-8years
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, with proven success in multidisciplinary team settings.
- Demonstrated time management and prioritisation skills with an ability to work flexibly within service demands.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to continuing education, quality management and/or research activities.

- Demonstrate your advanced clinical skills in working with children and young as a child life therapist, including the complexity of care you have contributed to within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Outline your experience and skills in delivering education and support to students, colleagues and groups of professionals.
