This is a great opportunity for those with a good understanding of quality improvement and excellent written communication skills, including experience in the preparing high level complex reports, which will support them in leading and contributing to organisation-wide clinical improvement projects with the Clinical Governance Unit.

SCHN Clinical Governance Unit is a dynamic and innovative Unit, that supports the Clinical Governance Framework which supports managers, clinicians and staff have a shared responsibility and accountability for the quality of care, continuously improve and minimise risks, fostering an environment of excellence in care for consumers and safeguard high standards of care.


What You'll be Doing

We are seeking a highly motivated Health Manager to work with the dynamic Clinical Governance Unit team for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN). This is a full time temporary assignment to commence in May 2024 – August 2026.

The position will support continuous improvement of clinical practice and health care delivery and provide high level advice to the Director of Safety, Quality and Governance and Executive leadership team on the extent to which compliance with governance, quality and safety standards are being achieved for the Annual Safety and Quality Account for SCHN.

The position will promote health care improvement through education, and the facilitation of various statewide quality improvement programs and local Improvement projects. The position requires highly developed analytical, leadership and project management skills, and an ability to work with a high degree of autonomy reflecting the level of experience and expertise required.

Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health entity in Australia, with a team of 5,000 staff committed to providing world-class paediatric health care in a family-focussed, healing environment.

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network incorporates The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW), Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick (SCH); Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS); Bear Cottage and Children's Court Clinic.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick provide care for over 120,000 families each year, incorporating 50,000 inpatient admissions, 90,000 emergency presentations and over 1 million outpatient services.

Both The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick are currently undergoing a major redevelopment. $1.3 billion in funding has been committed to build two world-class children’s hospitals and research centres at each site by 2025.

Our patients, families, health care practitioners and other hospital staff work together in policy and program development, implementation, evaluation and improvement; in health care facility design; and in professional education, as well as in the delivery of care.

Please note that throughout the recruitment process you will be assessed with the following:

  1. A degree in a relevant field (Healthcare or Project Management) or equivalent work experience, or a
    combination of study and work experience.
  2. Demonstrated quality improvement project experience.
  3. Understanding of patient safety, health care quality programs, project management and change
    management.
  4. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills including experience in the preparation and
    presentation of complex reports and high level of organisational skills
  5. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment
  6. Demonstrated skills in coaching and/or education with an understanding of the principles of adult learning
    and the relevance of evidence-based practice.
  7. Demonstrated familiarity with computer applications including Microsoft Word, MS Teams, Excel,
    PowerPoint, and Email.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
