The Paediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery departments at the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) is currently searching for Visiting Medical Officers (VMO's) to join their Craniofacial Surgery services for the quinquennium period, ending on 30th June 2027. 
The available positions are as follows: 

- Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) with an allocation of 240 hours annually at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. The anticipated commencement date is 1st October 2025
- Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) with an allocation of 400 hours annually at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. The anticipated commencement date is 4th August 2025

Whilst the VMO appointments will be based at the above sites, the departments work closely together and as such, clinical privileges will be SCHN Network based.

What you'll be doing
The Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in Paediatric Craniofacial Surgery within They Sydney Children's Hospitals Network incorporates work in the Departments of Paediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. The departments provide a wide range of surgical services to children, including cleft and craniofacial surgery as well as the management of trauma and burns.
  • Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff. 
  • Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Visiting Medical Officer (State) Award.

Applicants holding visas with working rights may be considered for temporary appointment (up to the expiry date of their visa) where no suitable local applicant is identified.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (Craniofacial Surgery) and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
  2. Post FRACS clinical fellowship in paediatric craniofacial surgery with a minimum of 12 months, with recent clinical paediatric plastic surgery and paediatric craniofacial surgery services
  3. Experience in endoscopic assisted strip craniectomy for the treatment of craniosynostosis
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
  5. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
  7. Ability to contribute to clinical workload, participate in an on-call roster for paediatric plastic surgery and paediatric craniofacial surgery, and to respond on site within a reasonable time
