Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.
We are seeking an exceptional Nurse Manager to lead our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead — a dynamic and highly specialised unit delivering critical care to some of the state’s most complex and vulnerable patients. As we prepare to move into a world-class new facility, this is your opportunity to bring your vision, energy and leadership to a team known for its excellence, innovation, and compassion. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of paediatric critical care, driving performance, enhancing culture, and building a service ready to thrive in our next chapter. This role demands a leader who is future-focused, and deeply committed to patient safety, staff development, and high-quality care. If you are ready to lead with purpose we want to hear from you.
What you'll be doing

The Nurse Manager will develop an operation plan for the nursing service, identify and actively seek to develop a staffing profile reflective of the service needs and develop and manage a nursing budget within the medical stream. The Nurse Manager will be involved in the provision of the strategic, operational direction and services at a hospital, Network and at a State-wide level. This position will work with the SCHN Executive, Director of Nursing and Clinical Steam Directors to inform and response to State and National policies. The Nurse Manager reports professionally to the Director of Nursing, and operationally works in collaboration with the Network Medical Stream Director and the Clinical Operations Directorate. This position provides direct line management of the general medical & isolation ward and Neurology unit, as well as professional oversight to other nursing positions within the medical stream (eg CNCs, NP, CNS2). This position works closely with Heads of Departments, Nurse Managers, and Nursing Unit Managers to ensure safe, effective, and ethical care is maintained. The Nurse Manager will provide leadership, mentorship, role modelling and support in the achievement of excellence in clinical practice; inspire, motivate and support nurses to reach their full potential through identifying, developing and facilitating a range of strategies to ensure they have the knowledge and skills required to undertake their roles and deliver quality care.
The Nurse Manager is self-directed and will utilise a range of communication strategies to foster shared decision making, responsibility and accountability.
