FASS specialises in providing independent and objective forensic analysis to the criminal and coronial justice systems, as well as quality scientific analysis that contributes to community health and safety. Our services include illicit drug analysis, forensic and drug toxicology, chemical criminalistics, forensic biology and DNA, forensic medicine, environmental toxicology, and environmental microbiology. What you'll be doing

The Operations Director Criminalistics is responsible for providing operational and tactical leadership to the laboratories that comprise Criminalistics to meet the organisational strategies and operational goals of NSW Health Pathology’s Forensic & Analytical Science Service:
  • Through thorough understanding of the contemporary forensic science operating environment including trends in crime, the requirements of law enforcement, investigation and intelligence, and the application of current and emerging technologies to meet the needs of Police, agency partners and the Community.
  • Ensuring that Criminalistics meets its stakeholder requirements to levels consistent with the Service Level Agreements, operational and organisational performance indicators.
  • Requiring the demonstration of sound leadership, people management, and organisational reform capabilities, coupled with high level stakeholder relationship skills.

  1. Relevant science tertiary qualifications plus a management tertiary qualification or extensive senior management experience, and extensive knowledge of contemporary issues in forensic science
  2. Demonstrated senior management experience in a forensic laboratory service with a soundtrack record of leadership and demonstrated ability to lead organisational change
  3. Demonstrated high level communication, interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills and ability to prepare complex briefings, reports, plans and papers
  4. Proven organisational, planning and management skills at strategic and operational levels with demonstrated ability to implement and manage projects
  5. Extensive knowledge of contemporary issues in management including, financial, human resources and resource management, including there application to the public sector
  6. Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and its applications in the operational context. Proven capacity to lead, manage, motivate and develop staff, ensuring commitment to service delivery
