About the opportunity
TPDO, ICPMR Westmead is a large and busy diagnostic unit servicing public and private hospitals and facilities across Sydney and NSW. Our team is focused on providing the best and safest service to our customers and patients through collaboration with clinical colleagues, teaching, research, service evaluation and continuous improvement. The laboratory operates from 5am to 10pm with staff rostered on a rotating basis.

What you'll be doing
Perform a range of laboratory duties supporting key laboratory areas (specimen reception, cut up, tissue processing, embedding, cutting, staining and diagnostic archive) including equipment maintenance and decontamination, handing of diagnostic specimens and archive material, disposal of hazardous chemicals and provide support to technical and scientific staff (Refer to SOD attached).

- A working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, all aspects of the laboratory environment relevant to the Department.
- Demonstrable clear verbal and written communication skills with a history of excellent team work.
- Demonstrable computer literacy skills including data entry, Microsoft Office and an ability to learn or use patient registration systems
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality work output while managing competing priorities
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues within the laboratory environment
- Ability to maintain and operate laboratory equipment safely, perform general maintenance duties with regard to procedures and SWP and maintain filing and archive systems.
- Demonstrable flexibility, time management and prioritisation skills.
- Awareness of legislation, policies and requirements relevant to a laboratory setting
