Ideally based in either Sydney or Newcastle, you’ll work in a collaborative, inclusive, and dynamic environment, and be part of a team of 15 data engineers, analysts, and data scientists who are applying cutting edge technology to build solutions that directly impact patient care and health outcomes across the state.

What you'll be doing
- the development of analytical solutions and dashboards that provide key insights to support informed decision making in relation to strategic and operational priorities for NSW Health Pathology
- the adoption of NSWHP approved best practices and standards for the collection and curation of data sources, development and maintenance of analytical tools and the dissemination of analytical output
- the ethical use of data and analytical products and the growth of data and analytical literacy across the enterprise.
The Data Scientist will also collaborate with other teams within NSW Health Pathology by rapidly exploring and appraising new sources of pathology related data, developing and testing statistical and machine learning models, and by further developing prototype models into automated and scalable tools, dashboards and interactive reports for non-specialist end-users

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in statistics, machine learning, computer science or a related discipline and/or prior experience in data modelling and analytics in a complex organisation.
- Evidence of advanced analytic skills, data processing and modelling skills including advanced proficiency and experience in the use of the Microsoft BI Platform and its tools to undertake complex analysis, report design, data visualisation and the presentation of information to a variety of audiences at a senior level.
- Experience and expert knowledge of cloud computing analytics infrastructure including integration tools such as Azure Synapse Analytics or AWS Glue
- High level experience with pathology services, the NSW Health funding model and pathology related health data systems including Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Flow data systems, workforce and financial data systems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, negotiation, written, verbal and presentation skills, leadership skills, the ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and positively interact and influence to achieve best outcomes.
- Background in building and deploying a variety of analytics across a large complex organisation including effectively documenting processes and procedures for management and staff and providing analytic support, advice, mentorship and / or supervision to less experienced data analysts.
- Vendor management including scope of works development, contracting and contract management throughout vendor engagement to its conclusion.
- Demonstrated understanding of privacy and health/personal information legislation, policies and standards.
