About the opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Senior Hospital Scientist to join our dynamic team at one of the largest tertiary referral centres for flow cytometry. Our state-of-the-art laboratory specialises in complex immunophenotyping for leukaemia, lymphoma, and a broad range of haematological and immunological disorders. We also provide essential diagnostic support for cellular therapeutics (HST) and FMH testing.

The Haematology Laboratory is located on Level 5 of the Acute Services Building at Royal North Shore Hospital. What you'll be doing

Responsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resource, business and resource management.

  1. Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
  2. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
  3. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
  4. Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting
  5. Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
  6. Extensive high level knowledge of working within Flow Cytometry section of the laboratory with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory.
  7. Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
