As one of the largest and most modern ambulance services in the world, NSW Ambulance operates in a diverse range of scenarios and geographical locations 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Employing over 4,500 staff across 300 metropolitan and regional locations, NSW Ambulance is a division of NSW Health and provides emergency and non-emergency clinical care, retrieval and specialist patient transport across NSW.


NSW Ambulance is now seeking to appoint high calibre, contemporary leaders to the roles of Deputy Director of Clinical Operations (DDCOs), across multiple locations in NSW. 


Clinical Operations is responsible for the delivery of front-line pre-hospital care, medical retrieval and health related transport. The DDCO is responsible for the staff and operations of a sector, typically managing over 200 staff and a budget of $40m.


This represents a unique opportunity to utilise your contemporary leadership abilities to deliver a high value and important service to the residents of NSW.


Reporting to the NSW Director of Clinical Operations (Sectors), you will:

  • Lead and grow a culture of clinical excellence and high performance within your sector and build a safety culture for staff and patients;

  • Lead and direct all Ambulance operations within your sector, ensuring the highest levels of service are delivered;

  • Lead, coach and develop all staff including volunteers, on all aspects of clinical operations;

  • Develop strategies and programs to improve the operational efficiency of your sector, through astute financial and operational management, and the adoption of global best practice methodologies;

  • Collaborate closely with your peers and partners in the other sectors and create strong relationships with external stakeholders such as local health districts and community groups;

  • Foster a responsive, future focused and contemporary organisational culture which supports staff to deliver true excellence in patient care.

To succeed in this role, you’ll possess a track record of excellence in operational leadership and management gained within a large, complex, customer focused, multi-site organisation, ideally with a time critical, logistics focus. This experience may have been gained within the public or private sector and from a broad range of industries.  Experience within a clinical setting, whilst not essential, would be desirable. The ability to lead, motivate and inspire your team to be the very best within a highly challenging and demanding environment will be critical to success.
