Senior Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Speech Pathologist
An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated speech pathologist with a strong interest in and commitment to providing excellent speech pathology services in the ICU to join the speech pathology team at Royal North Shore Hospital. This temporary part-time job share speech pathology position will provide a service to the complex clinical areas of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) & High Dependency Unit (HDU) inpatients.

What you'll be doing
This senior position provides clinical leadership and expertise within the ICU/ HDU at RNSH. The senior clinician is responsible for providing a high standard of assessment, intervention & management of swallowing and communication disorders within this complex area, including the management of complex trauma, Tracheostomy, ventilated, burns and spinal patients within this area. This position is also an active member of the RNSH Tracheostomy Team, providing daily input into the management of patients with Tracheostomies within the hospital.
The Senior ICU clinician also acts as a resource to speech pathologists within the Local Health District and provides a consultative service across the state for clinicians around tracheostomy & ventilation management, burns management and long-term management of communication and swallowing difficulties in high spinal cord injury.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Recent, extensive and varied post graduate clinical experience as a level 2 Speech Pathologist or above.
- Demonstrated current clinical knowledge, expertise, and advanced skill in the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders in ICU & HDU including demonstrated advanced clinical skills and knowledge in Tracheostomy and ventilation management.
- Demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge in instrumental assessment of swallowing, including VFSS & FEES.
- Extended skills and specialised knowledge in the provision of current clinical speech pathology practice. Ability to take responsibility for the delivery of evidence-based practice for consumers, carers and families.
