Opportunity exists for a new temporary part-time (2 day per week) position as a Respiratory Hospital Scientist at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital (HKH). This is an exciting new service at HKH. The position performs a range of respiratory investigations appropriate for the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory diseases. They are expected to be knowledgeable in the procedures, methodology and theory pertaining to respiratory function testing and take responsibility for routine diagnostic tests and are expected to appraise the results in order to ensure accurate data recording and reporting. The intended days of week are Tuesdays and Thursdays, with hours of 8am-4:30pm.

What you'll be doing
The Respiratory Scientist is responsible for the provision of high quality care to patients. The position performs a range of respiratory investigations appropriate for the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory diseases. They are expected to be knowledgeable in the procedures, methodology and theory pertaining to respiratory function testing and take responsibility for routine diagnostic tests and are expected to appraise the results in order to ensure accurate data recording and reporting.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Degree in Science from an approved university or college of advanced education requiring a minimum of three years full-time study or such qualifications as the employer deems equivalent.
  2. Relevant experience within a hospital or private practice setting in respiratory function measurement.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in technical procedures associated with specialised procedures and/or treatments relevant to the speciality, preferably in Spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide, exercise testing and bronchial provocation tests.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the utilisation of information technology and biomedical equipment.
  5. Demonstrated excellent communication, time management and organisational skills to work in a responsible and efficient manner to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
