Where you'll be working


Royal North Shore Hospital is a Trauma centre and State referral service for Burns/Plastics, Interventional Neuroradiology and Acute Spinal Cord Injuries. The Intensive Care unit has 4 pods - 2 General, 1 Cardiothoracic and 1 Neurosciences pod. The ICU is funded for 39 beds but has the capacity to surge up to 50 patients. The Nursing leadership team consists of the Nurse Manager, NUMs, CNEs, CNC and NPs.

What you'll be doing

The Nurse Manager for the Intensive Care Unit is a senior member in the nursing leadership team having key responsibilities in managing activities within the intensive care unit to lead the nursing and support teams. The Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for the daily operational functioning of the intensive care unit. 
 
Clinician engagement and leadership has been a prominent feature of the public health system for a number of years, where clinician led clinical standards, safety and quality improvements have become a major focus. The Local Health District (LHD) is committed to the strengthening and ongoing involvement and clinician engagement of staff that provide direct patient care in the planning, delivery, improvement, and evaluation of health services.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

    1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
    2. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); recognized post graduate/tertiary qualifications in health or working towards the same, including ongoing engagement in professional development to further enhance their management and leadership competencies.
    3. Recent management experience in an acute hospital setting inclusive of an understanding of ICU and Human Resource Management issues.
    4. Proven ability to contribute to, and advance the operational/business plans for Nursing services, coordinate the process of organisational change, monitor and evaluate Nursing resource allocations.
    5. Demonstrated experience in building, leading and managing teams to capitalise on team diversity and deliver achievement of key performance indicators.
