Where you will be Working
A number of vacancies exist for Child & Youth Psychiatrists to work in the Northern Sydney Child & Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) located in St Leonards, Ryde, Hornsby, Brookvale and other NSLHD locations as directed. 
 
The teams cover community child & adolescent psychiatry up to the age of 18, across the CYMHS sector at Brookvale, Hornsby early psychosis (16-24 years), and an innovative assertive outreach child & adolescent team at various locations in Northern Sydney. These teams are dynamic, well-established and offer a variety of therapeutic community-based interventions for children, adolescents, youth, and their families. The community team also has links to Northern Beaches Lower North Show, Hornsby Hospitals, providing consultation to short-stay and paediatric wards. There are flexible working hours arrangements for successful applicants. 
Core clinical services include CYMHS Community Mental Health services, and a 12 bedded inpatient unit.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to provide psychiatric leadership to the teams through direct clinical care, offering consultation and teaching, as well as the opportunity to further research interests and partaking in the child & adolescent on-call roster.

Purpose of the Position
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). 

The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

The position holder will be part of the NSLHD Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), located in St Leonards, Ryde, Hornsby, Brookvale and other NSLHD locations as directed.
The position holder will provide consultation, assessment and management to community-based children, adolescents, youth and their families.


Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  3. Advanced knowledge about assessment and treatment of child, adolescent and youth mental health problems consistent with the senior nature of the position
  4. Skills in managing complex mental health problems in a multidisciplinary context and advanced skills in consultation at the individual, group and service level
  5. Willingness to be involved in academic activities (teaching and research) and experience in teaching psychiatry to medical, nursing and allied health students/staff, psychiatry trainees and others as required and a willingness for ongoing involvement in such activities
  6. Skills in negotiating with a wide range of people and organisations including working with, and engaging consumers and carers
  7. Familiarity with quality improvement processes
  8. Unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to drive

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the JanssenCOVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form)
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all healthcare workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
