Hours Per Week: up to 8
Duration: From 1 July 2025 to remainder of Quinquennium 2030
Purpose of the Position
Primary objectives will be:
To deliver oral surgery clinical services in RNSH Oral Health Unit on a referral basis.
To deliver oral surgery clinical services in RNSH & Ryde Theatre Hospitals as required.
To provide advice to RNSH Emergency Department for management of dental infection & clearance.
To act as a supervisor for the postgraduate oral surgery students as required.
To act as a mentor to other staff.
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of dental students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.
Selection Criteria
- BDS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration as a Dental Practitioner with the Dental Board of Australia. Applicants must have Specialist registration in Oral Surgery or recognition as a specialist by the Dental Board of Australia. Applicants expecting their registration as a Specialist in Oral Surgery within 3 months may be considered.

- Sound clinical experience in all aspects of dento-alveolar surgery and oral medicine is mandatory. In addition, resident hospital experience is essential and ability to work with multiple disciplines of surgeons, physicians and hospital management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of restorative and prosthetic dental options in the restoration of function and aesthetics for patients following oral surgery, particularly with post-operative care of trauma patients relying on post-surgery dental rehabilitation.
- Appropriate background and experience in general dental and Oral surgery with an interest in oral medicine.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and published research as relevant to the position as well as mentoring/supervising visiting postgraduate students and vicarious responsibility for trainee oral surgeons is a part requirement of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment as well as interest in quality improvement methodologies.
- Participation in on-call roster as required by Royal North Shore Hospital.
