Purpose of the Position
The position will provide acute adult mental health inpatient care at Royal North Shore Hospital as part of the North Shore Ryde Mental Health Services (NSRMHS) and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.
The position holder will also supervise psychiatry registrars and resident medical officers associated with the Mental Health Inpatient Unit.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained substantial specialist pathways.. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered.

- Appropriate experience to practice as Senior Medical practitioner in psychiatry together with a demonstrated interest and experience in acute inpatient service.
- The capacity for involvement in education, training, supervision and liaison in inpatient psychiatry across a variety of professional disciplines and settings.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team with a variety of professional disciplines
- Demonstrated skills in negotiating with a wide range of people and organisations including working with, and engaging consumers and carers
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical governance processes.
