About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the development of a palliative care admitting service in RNSH while also working to grow and progress the existing busy consult service

Purpose of the Position 

Performing the clinical duties of a staff specialist in palliative care as determined by the RNSH Head of Department for Palliative Care. The position is primarily based at Royal North Shore Hospital and includes delivery of inpatient, outpatient and community clinical palliative care services; implementation of and participation in palliative medicine education, research and quality improvement projects; participation in other activities related to the delivery of excellent palliative care. 

This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM) or Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Palliative Care Medicine
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as a Palliative care medical specialist including the capacity to act as a team leader.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with teams to support and optimize their capacity to deliver services
  6. Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and clinical risk management; actively seek out improvements to service delivery; initiating change and consulting those affected by the change; allocating resources and proactively managing potential conflicts.
  7. Demonstrate participation in ongoing professional development and a commitment to education and research
  8. Demonstrated capacity to work within the palliative care multidisciplinary team.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form)
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
