Royal North Shore Hospitals, Neurology team is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join their Multiple Sclerosis team. The position is being offered on a Temporary, Part time basis.

Where you'll be working

Royal North Shore Hospital

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) CNS, works in partnership with patients, their family and carers to support and equip them with the tools needed to live well with their MS. There are a lot of treatments available for people with MS, and part of the role has been educating patients around treatment choice, treatment changes, management of side-effects and risks associated with some of the treatments. The CNS attends the weekly multidisciplinary MS clinic. The position also works closely with the Medical Day Procedure Unit (MDPU) in Ambulatory Care Centre, providing staff education and patient education at time of their treatments.

What you'll be doing

The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position is to provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within a nursing unit, team or service. The CNS employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making working closely with managers and other senior clinicians. 

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Nurse Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience.
  2. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  3. A commitment to excellence in nursing practice and continuing professional development.
  4. Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  5. An understanding of the professional, ethical and legal requirements of the Registered Nurse.
