We are seeking a motivated Aboriginal Health Worker to join our Immunisation team in the Public Health Unit. This role will work with parents, communities and immunisation providers to ensure Aboriginal children are vaccinated on time.

Where you'll be working: Public Health Unit at Hornsby Hospital

What you'll be doing:The overall purpose of this position is to improve timely immunisation coverage in Aboriginal children. This position will access the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) data for Aboriginal child immunisation records, facilitate liaison and build relationships between relevant parties including communities, parents, Aboriginal Medical Services, other immunisation providers and other stakeholders and assist in the delivery of strategies to improve timely Aboriginal immunisation coverage.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply. 

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria: 

  1. Holds or is willing to enrol for the Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or a relevant area of health care or equivalent work experience in health or community services.
  2. Aboriginality (under section 14D of the Anti-Discrimination Act).
  3. Knowledge and experience of working within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia with ability, willingness and commitment to engage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities living in Northern Sydney Local Health District.
  4. Preferred experience in a government or community organisation dealing with community or health issues.
