An exciting opportunity exists for a temporary part time (Mon Tues) role to work as a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 with experience in supportive and palliative care, commitment to improving outcomes for people with end-of-life care and supporting their families and carers to work as part of the consult service within the Palliative Care department at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH).

Where you'll be working

The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC2) will work collaboratively with the wider Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and will provide leadership in the development and enhancement of palliative care services for patients with a life limiting illness. The position will liaise with a range of clinical teams in the acute setting and link in with Community Services and Palliative Care Units to ensure efficient transition of care upon discharge.

What you'll be doing

The Palliative Care CNC will provide leadership in the development and enhancement of palliative care services for patients with a life limiting illness.
Acting as a clinical expert in the area of palliative care and resource person to staff, the CNC will have particular expertise inclusive of health assessments, care pathways, advanced care planning and on-going symptom management.
Working collaboratively with the Clinical Director Palliative Care NSLHD, Staff Specialists and other nurses across the NSLHD, the CNC will provide a consultancy service for patients with life limiting illness.
The Palliative Care CNC will actively participate in the multidisciplinary teams and will be involved in care planning; coordinating patients care; transfer to Palliative Care Units and links to Community key providers.
The Palliative Care CNC must fulfil the five domains of clinical nurse consultancy as outlined in the Functional/Operational/Clinical position requirements.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Registered with Authority to Practice with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Minimum five years full time post graduate experience with 3 years full time equivalent in Palliative Care Nursing. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification (minimum Grad Diploma/Certificate level) or evidence of working towards Masters level qualification.
  2. Demonstrated effective organisational and time management skills and the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated excellent collaborative, leadership and teaching skills.
  4. Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide, information and education effectively to patients, families and carers.
  5. Demonstrated advanced ability to assess, plan, initiate and manage complex cases.
