Where you'll be working

Royal North Shore and Ryde Hospital

What you'll be doing
NSLHD Drug and Alcohol Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems from their alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use, and/or their families and carers. Inpatient D&A services are provided at Royal North Shore Hospital, Outpatient D&A services are RNSH and Brookvale Community Health Centres, Ryde and Hornsby Hospital.

The aim of the Consultation Liaison Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is to provide consultation and advice to the Emergency Department, Wards of the Hospital and service partners regarding the treatment and care of patients presenting with Drug and Alcohol issues on weekends and weekdays where cover is limited. In addition, the Consultation Liaison CNS provides a liaison role, supporting treatment paths for patients, can work independently and part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  2. Division 1 Registered Nurse with post registration qualification relevant to speciality and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their post graduate qualification or such other qualifications relevant experience to the Drug and Alcohol speciality.
  3. Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
  4. What is your understanding of harm minimisation and how have you applied this approach in your practice?
  5. Have you worked in a consultation liaison role before? How do you manage referrals and communication with multiple teams?
  6. What is your role as a liaison nurse when consulting on a patient who presents to the emergency department with substance use issues?
