Position Classification & Remuneration: Dependant on qualifications

Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Counsellor Level 3: $112,396.00 - $116,038.00 per annum
Snr Psychologist: $119,206.00 - $129,171.00 per annum
Clinical Psychologist: $109,247.00 - $133,156.00 per annum
Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1: $126,720.87 - $129,314.15 per annum

About Us

The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (CYF-MH) provides services to children, young people, and their families in the Nepean and Blue Mountains community where mental health issues are seriously impacting on their emotional wellbeing, relationships, and day to day functioning. CYF-MH offers mental health assessment, psychoeducation, clinical support and specialist treatment services. CYF-MH is committed to working collaboratively with families and the systems around them to provide person centred, trauma informed and recovery orientated care.
 
The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician is a key member of the Safeguards interdisciplinary. The position will work clinically with families and ensure that cultural considerations are integrated into the mental health care provided. The position will report clinically to the Safeguards Clinical lead and will be supported culturally the Aboriginal Mental Health Manager and the Namurugunya Aboriginal mental health team.

They will apply their in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge to plan, co-ordinate and implement evidence based, trauma informed, and developmentally appropriate assessment and treatment to children and adolescents and their families.

What you will bring to the role 

  1. Tertiary qualifications (bachelor's degree or higher) & professional discipline registration/membership. Social Workers must meet eligibility for membership with AASW. Occupational Therapist must have general registration with APHRA. Senior Psychologists General APHRA registration & must be eligible for grading as a Senior with no less than 12 months at 9 years of service or thereafter. Clinical Psychologists must have a postgraduate Masters or higher in Clinical Psychology & eligibility for AHPRA endorsement in the area of clinical psychology. Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 Registered Nurse 1 with APHRA, must have at least 5 years' full time equivalent post registration experience & an approved post graduate qualifications in mental health, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the LHD. Counsellor must be a graduate of the Djirrawang Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship program with the associated tertiary qualification and mental health experience.
  2. Post graduate clinical experience providing evidence-based assessment and treatment for children and/or adolescents and their families
  3. Ability to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature. Including ability to resolve conflict and de-escalate levels of distress
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and independently to accomplish service goals and improved consumer care and outcomes.
  5. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  6. Competence in the use of information technology systems.
  7. Ability to be involved in the planning, development, implementing and evaluation of the NBM Safeguards program, and to identify and participate in ongoing quality improvement activities within CYF-MH.
  8. Extensive contemporary experience and knowledge of Aboriginal health and mental health care practice, as well as demonstrated understanding of the principles of trauma informed care and its application when working with children/adolescents and families/carers; and experience contributing to service improvement, culturally safe models of care or Aboriginal mental health initiatives within a hospital or community setting.
