The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs. 

The Professional Lead Social Worker Mental Health (PLSW) provides Clinical leadership, governance, and strategic direction for the mental health social work (SW) workforce and clinical SW services for referrals as designated. Leadership of the SW discipline through active participation in the MH Allied Health Clinical Governance Team. (MH-AHCGT).

What you will bring to the role 

  1. Must hold a Bachelor or Post Graduate degree in Social Work that provides eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  2. Substantial post graduate clinical experience providing Social Work to consumers with mental health problems, demonstrated recovery- oriented practice of high-level social work knowledge, skills, and clinical expertise, and demonstrated knowledge of the needs of families and carers and family-friendly approaches in relation to mental health issues
  3. Demonstrated commitment to the ongoing development of Social Work service, and partnering with consumers and carers, which may be evidenced by innovation in clinical practice, evidence-based practice, quality improvement activities and/or clinical practice/academic research
  4. Demonstrated experience in a leadership and/or senior Social Work role in mental health services, including responsibility for the supervision of undergraduate Social Work students, New Graduates and the professional standards of Social Work staff.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to the ongoing professional development and education of social work staff and the fieldwork education of social work students including provision of clinical supervision to Social Work staff in line with recognised standards and the education of health professionals
  6. Proven ability to work effectively in operational and professional structures including high level interpersonal skills, analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated ability to facilitate change and manage projects for timely completion
  7. Demonstrated experience and skills working in partnership with staff, key stakeholders, consumers, and carers through the application of high level interpersonal, written/ verbal communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and effective time management skills.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW drivers’ licence and willingness to use same for work purposes (P2 acceptable).
