Our Emergency Department at Nepean Hospital is looking for a Nurse Unit manager, Level 1 to join the team as the Safe Assessment Unit Nurse Unit Manager, Level 1. This position is available Temporary Full Time until June 30, 2026. The NBMLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce will provide safe, compassionate, person-centred health care in collaboration with patients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams.

Your role as the Safe Assessment Unit (SAU), Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is in-charge of all aspects of the unit environment and takes responsibility for the standard of patient care in the unit. This imperative position is pivotal to the coordination of patient care, unit management and leadership to enable the delivery of safe, effective, quality nursing care and efficient use of resources.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Registered Nurse - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) AND extensive relevant post registration nursing experience.
  2. Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders and manage conflict.
  3. Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing services in the contemporary health care environment.
  4. Demonstrated previous experience in meeting Ministry of Health set KPI's.
  5. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, coach, mentor, encourage and guide others to enable them to reach their full potential.
  6. Demonstrated ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit/ward are managed to deliver safe and efficient health care within available resources.
  7. Evidence of and commitment to patient/client/customer focused care, clinical governance, and quality improvement.
  8. Extensive clinical experience in Emergency Nursing with desired, but not essential, clinical experience in Mental Health or Drug & Alcohol.
