Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Hawkesbury District Hospital within the Department of Anaesthesia.

 

The Head of Department is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient clinical services through leadership and management, coordinating medical staff for safe and effective service delivery, and overseeing departmental clinical governance. This is a 3 + 2-year term, remunerated at Visiting Medical Officer, Zero Hour Contract with 8 administrative hours allocated.

 

The successful applicant will demonstrate sound clinical knowledge in anaesthetics, possess a commitment to clinical leadership and staff development and have proven ability in innovation, team building and strategic planning. The role involves contributing to teaching, accreditation readiness, incident management and driving continuous improvement in patient care and service delivery.

 

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria

 

1.        Possess or be eligible for specialist registration (Anaesthesia) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);

2.       Possess Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.

3.       Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

4.       Sound clinical knowledge in Anaesthesia demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.

5.       High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

6.       Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.

7.       Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behavior to junior medical staff.

8.       Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department.

  

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Public Hospital (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts).

 

Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
