Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/dental practitioners for the above position (s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Family Metabolic Health Service and the Paediatric Diabetes Service.
Successful applicants will be expected to be a driving force in establishing the paediatric component of service within the NBMLHD Family Metabolic Health Service and creating links and lines of communication and cooperation with the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network, the Charles Perkins Centre and Sydney University Nepean Clinical School.
The position is open to any paediatric medical specialist with experience and interest in a multidisciplinary and evidence based approach to intervention and management of childhood obesity.
While this position is mainly for outpatient work there will be also be requirement to provide inpatient management/support when necessary. Senior Medical Staff may be expected to provide admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, on call and outpatient services as determined and required by the district.
The Staff Specialist will participate in paediatric endocrinology on call roster along with other Paediatric Endocrinologists working at Nepean Hospital. The Senior Medical Practitioner is also responsible for the maintenance of quality with all aspects of their service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
The number of sessions will be 8 hours per week. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
2. Possess Fellowship of FRACP in Paediatric Endocrinology as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of this position.
3. Interest in designing and piloting new obesity/chronic metabolic management programs. Experience in management of General Paediatric Endocrinology in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
4. Prior experience working in a clinical or research capacity within a multidisciplinary Paediatric endocrine/metabolic service, with an interest in education and teaching activities.
5. Sound clinical knowledge in Paediatric endocrine/metabolic conditions demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
6. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team including with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues; and ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care.
7. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
8. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical/Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award.
