Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Nepean and Blue Mountains within the Department of Endocrinology at Nepean Hospital, however endocrine support is provided across the NBMLHD by this department.
The Department of Endocrinology at Nepean Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. In addition, as part of Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, it provides outreach services to Blue Mountains and Lithgow Hospitals.
This role will be embedded within the multidisciplinary Nepean Diabetes Service, which offers care for individuals with diabetes across the lifespan, including in the perinatal period.
The successful applicant will be part of a multidisciplinary team, which will be tasked with implementing a new model of care for diabetes management in adults. The role has a focus on providing services to adults with diabetes who are transitioning from adolescent services and/or engaging with diabetes services for the first time in acute and chronic settings, including through the use of integrated care strategies. They will also look after those with diabetes with chronic and complex needs. There is a large focus on type 1 diabetes and the use of technology to support care. The successful applicant may also assist in a busy gestational diabetes clinic. They will routinely supervise advanced trainees in charge of inpatient diabetes management and/or in diabetes clinics. They will be asked to establish routine data collection to support QI and research-based activities.
The successful applicant will participate in an on-call roster at Nepean Hospital and care for admitted in patients with endocrinological needs. They will be required to actively participate in departmental meetings, teaching, quality improvement (including through the development and/or revision of policies and procedures) and research.
The applicant may be asked to provide cover in public clinics across the NBMLHD to support staff on leave on an ad hoc basis upon negotiation.

- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent, as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position. Relevant qualifications in Endocrinology. A driver’s licence and wiliness to travel to clinics in the Blue Mountains and in Lithgow if required.
- Sound clinical knowledge in Endocrinology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to participate in health service redesign as part of a multidisciplinary team. Past experience in health service redesign activities is desired.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
- Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner, including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and the Staff Specialists (State) Award
