An exciting opportunity exists for a General Manager to lead the Illawarra Hospital Group. This key executive leadership role and will oversee the effective and efficient management of all services provided on the Wollongong, Shellharbour, Bulli and Coledale sites.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) extends south of Sydney, about 250km along this picturesque coastal strip, and provides world class health care to its community of more than 400,000 residents. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 across eight hospital sites and more than 60 community health services, and an annual budget of approximately $1.2 billion.


ISLHD has an experienced and established executive and leadership team and a commitment to delivering the very best health outcomes for the communities served.


If you are a skilled executive operating at a strategic level with proven experience driving growth and affecting change this job offers a unique experience to be involved in the construction and opening of the areas newest hospital offering an expanded emergency department, specialised elective surgery services, rehab and aged care, a new drug and alcohol unit and expanded mental health and acute medical services.


You will demonstrate the capacity to work collaboratively across a multi-disciplined organisational landscape. You will possess an innovative mindset and be passionate about healthcare and its impact on the community. Critical to your success will be your strong communication and engagement skills.


The role's primary location will be at in Wollongong Hospital, Loftus Street, with the need for regular travel to other key sites within the Illawarra region.


About this role

The General Manager, Illawarra Hospital Group is responsible for the operational management of all services provided by the Group which includes Wollongong, Shellharbour, Bulli and Coledale Hospitals.


A key function of the role is the oversight of a robust clinical governance and leadership framework requiring strengthening clinical leadership and engagement to ensure the safe delivery of clinical services within the Group.


This is an ongoing, full time, Band 1, Health Service Senior Executive (HSSE) role. An attractive remuneration package within the range of $234,837 to $258,940 per annum, with annual performance reviews, will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:

  • Extensive proven experience at a senior or executive management level in a substantial and complex organisation engaged in clinical service delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing operational structures and strategic business planning processes to achieve organisational objectives and KPIs within budget.
