  1. Counsellor must have a bachelor degree in counselling or a related field, or other qualification deemed equivalent; or Social Worker must have a Bachelor of Social Work and eligible for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers; or Welfare Officer must have a minimum of a bachelor degree in a relevant field eg community welfare, or other qualification deemed equivalent; or Occupational Therapist registered by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; or registered as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia; or registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nurses & Midwives Board of Australia.
  2. Specialist knowledge, skills and abilities in mental health triage, assessment, care planning, treatment, discharge planning and review in relation to acutely unwell mental health consumers with focus on young people up to age 24 yrs.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NSW Mental Health Act (2007) and Amendments, Children & Young Persons (Care & Protection Act) 2010 and National Mental Health Standards (2010), and Best Practice guidelines for service delivery in mental health.
  4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people and engage young people and their families successfully.
  5. Competent computer skills utilising varied and appropriate software programs (eg word processing, data management systems and spreadsheets)
  6. Current unrestricted Drivers Licence and ability to travel as required.
  7. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a complex nature.
  8. Proven ability to provide high level clinical advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service.
