What you'll be doing
The Medical Physics Specialist will provide the medical physics services required for external beam radiation therapy treatments with minimal supervision of their professional practice.
The Medical Physics Specialist will:
- Provide lead role support for the medical physics team in the areas of radiotherapy equipment commissioning, quality assurance, dosimetry and treatment planning
- Assist with the supervision of trainees and registrars
- Actively participate in research and education programs.
- Initiate improvements in the standard of the department's physics service and cancer care provided, have good communication and practical skills and work as part of a dedicated progressive team.
- Travel may be required across the Mid North Coast Lower Health District.

A TALENT POOL MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE ROLES AND WILL REMAIN VALID FOR 18 MONTHS.
- Master of Science or higher degree in Medical Physics and/or qualifications necessary for ordinary membership of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).
- ACPSEM Certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Radiotherapy Equipment Commissioning and Quality Assurance. International candidates eligible for registration by the ACPSEM may apply. Candidates who have completed the TEAP written exam and expect to be certified within 6 months can also apply.
- Demonstrated clinical medical physics skills with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in radiation oncology medical physics including knowledge and experience in radiotherapy equipment commissioning, quality assurance and management, dosimetry, complex treatment planning including the implementation of new treatment techniques and radiation protection.
- Demonstrated good communication and organisational skills, a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and provide proactive support across multiple sites.
- Ability to work unsupervised in all areas of radiation oncology physics and to work out-of-hours and flexibly.
- A demonstrated ability to achieve high standards of professional practice and a commitment to quality improvement, further education and research.
- Hold a current NSW EPA license to use ionising radiation apparatus or be eligible to apply for same.
